Democratic Rep. Katie Porter holds on to seat in tightly fought Orange County race

California House candidate Katie Porter, a Democrat and member of the California Assembly, said in November that she is not running for anything else. But her decision to remain in the race came with a bit of a twist: A month after declaring her candidacy, she decided to end her campaign and endorse fellow Democrat Harley Rouda for the state Senate.

Porter was on the ballot in her race to represent California’s 36th congressional district, which is part of Orange County. She’s one of two Democrats vying for the right to succeed retiring Republican Rep. Darrell Issa, who’s held the seat for 11 years.
