Queen Elizabeth II (born Princess Elizabeth, 10 January 1926 – died 4 February 2002) was the longest-serving monarch in the world. No other sovereign has enjoyed such a long reign: in fact it is the longest reign of any female monarch in history. Indeed, Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning monarch in the world until her nephew Harry, Prince of Wales, assumed the throne at the age of 23.

Queen Elizabeth II, the seventh monarch to bear the British royal title, was born in 1926 in Kenya and became known as Princess Elizabeth while at the Kenyan royal court. When her parents were murdered, she became Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in 1952.

Elizabeth II ascended the throne on 4 February 1952, upon the death of her father and the abdication of her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, three days before. She was known as Princess Elizabeth from 1952 to 1961 and as Her Majesty the Queen from 1961 to 1997, when she ascended to the throne once more at the age of 65.
