Drew Barrymore recalls being ‘drunk’ and making out with George Clooney’s friend after her divorce in 2002
A decade before her Oscar-winning role as Jane Fonda in “Milk,” Drew Barrymore had a brief affair with a hot-shot Hollywood star, George Clooney’s close friend and then-girlfriend Kelly Preston.
The actress revealed she made out with him after she and Preston split up after an argument, at a party that was attended by a lot of Hollywood bigwigs, including Clooney, Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise, and Jennifer Aniston.
In an interview with the New York Observer on Saturday, she recalled how she “drank a lot” in the months leading up to the affair and recalled how the two made out as they dined at a small restaurant in the Hollywood Hills in 2002.
“George Clooney had just split – he and Kelly had broken up and he was single,” she said. “I was just drunk and I was making out with the other people at the party. George was very sweet and he told me, ‘I want to show you something.’”
It turns out that what he wanted to show her was a picture of him giving Kelly, by then his wife, a good-luck kiss on the lips.
The picture was in a box of old photos that he had given to Kelly, who said she was “pretty upset” by it – which was probably the point.
Asked about the whole thing, Barrymore said: “I was drunk.”
The actress also defended her “fierce loyalty” to Clooney (their relationship lasted for more than a decade) and said she would never go back to the “meltdown” the actress went through after he divorced her.
She has previously expressed fears that her current husband Ryan Reynolds is becoming increasingly distant. She has accused him of being difficult, not calling her when she needed him most, and not being able to relate to her as a partner
